The Parts That Make a Whirlpool Refrigerator Work

Whirlpool Refrigerator Parts and how they really work.

Whirlpool Refrigerator Parts are  very vital to keeping steady temperatures and keeping your food fresh and cold. Many people think that the main part, which is the compressor, just runs to put cold air into the box.The fact is, refrigeration is actually removing the heat that is in the box.

As always make sure the refrigerator is plugged in to maintain the electricity flow. On most refrigerators the first thing that has to be satisfied is called the cold control. The cold control acts as a thermostat and tells the compressor and other parts to run. When the control is satisfied at desired temperature it shuts off the compressor and fans.

So the refrigerator parts are running and the compressor is doing its job (taking out the HOT air) in the box and compressing it with freon to make it colder. Now your thinking where is the hot air coming from and where does it go? Well when the Refrigerator is opened and shut alot with a bigger family or you have bad parts allowing hot air in i.e bad gaskets or doors, or air from outside the box gets in the refrigerator it trips the cold control.

So the hot air is compressed and released out the condenser coils. The condenser fan blows across the coils and the compressor keeping them cool to maintain the performance of the refrigerator. HELPFUL TIP - the fan draws in dust, animal dander, and other things around the house and clogs up the condenser restricting the hot air flow and will decrease the performance of cooling.

The fresh food section then gets the cold air from the evaporator fan that blows across the cold and frosty evaporator. This air is directed down through a small chute or hole into the refrigerator.

Now that we have learned how the refrigerator gets cold air and the parts that maintain the coolness work, lets talk about the defrost cycle. There are 3 parts in the defrost cycle.

1) The defrost timer always runs and should shut down the cooling process of the refrigerator to defrost the frost and ice formed by the freon pump in through the evaporator coils. the timer cycles eight hours cooling and twenty minutes while defrosting.
2) The defrost heater is turned on by the defrost timer. This will remove the frost from the evaporator coil.
3) Defrost termination switch (by-metal)  is a thermostat that shut the heater off at certain temperatures (depending on the refrigerator model).

Freon goes through the lines and builds up frost more than people think. A frost build up that will not get defrosted by the heaters that the timer trips will decrease the air flow to the fresh food section of the refrigerator part.
